Gettin' Desi With... Humble The Poet

This is one of my favorite Desi finds in the last couple of years! I especially love the song "Baagi Music".  The video is also surprisingly well-made.  It took me a few times to figure out why this dude was tattooing a map of Australia on his neck! I was like "Damn this brutha must really have a thing for the Outback!"  Then, around the fifth time I watched the video, I was like "Oh snap! That's Punjab!" Unified Punjab to be exact (at least I think that's what it is... if you know otherwise let me know!) Check out the video...



PS- I love that Desi comedian "AKAmazing" was included in the intro! More on him later :)

Here's a new one from a UK rapper named Sway (...it comes out in December). You know I love a strong female voice, so obviously, I'm really feeling this track!



I was so curious to know where that vocal track come from and it turns out it's from a (disco?) song called "Love Sensation" by Loleatta Holloway.



After listening to this song, I then connected the dots and realized that "Love Sensation" was also sampled in Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch's "Good Vibrations"!  Gotta love sampling...

Flashback Friday: Indo Smoke

I was recently reminiscing with a friend about the good ol' days of Hip-Hop and Mista Grimm's "Indo Smoke" came up.  He mentioned that the song was on the Poetic Justice soundtrack.  You know, that movie where Tupac plays a (really HOT) Postal worker and he goes "postal" for Janet Jackson!  Anyhow, here's the video (...be sure to look out for the awesome levitation special effects).

Happy Thanksgiving!- Thuggish Ruggish Bone (Discotheque Remix)

Happy Thanksgiving!  And what's a more appropriate song for Turkey Day than a song by a guy named "Wish Bone"...and of course the rest of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony!  No, but seriously, I've been searching for this remix of Thuggish Ruggish Bone for a while now and it just so happens that today I finally found it!   As a DJ it is one of the most frustrating things is to discover a song that you love which is nearly impossible to track down!  After searching through several duds, I finally stumbled upon this remix on Youtube! (You would be surprised how many bad remixes of Thuggish Ruggish Bone there are out there!)  So, why was I obessed with this particualar song?  Well, it brings back wonderful memories of junior high and my first exposure to "thug life."  Like the time I was sent home from school for wearing the color red.  Apparently I looked like a hardcore gang member!  Anyhow, to my surprise, someone even remixed the music video!  Check it out:

New Fashionably Bombed intro starring DJ Kathbombay!

If you know me, then you know that in addition to being a Bhangra and Hip-Hop DJ, I also run a Fashion and Cocktail website with my sister called Fashionably Bombed.  We recently teamed up with our friend Enrique of the NoNetwork to create a brand new intro segment for our videos.  After much debating, we decided on the song "Good Girls Go Bad" by Cobra Starship because, well, our last name is "Good." This is one of my favorite classic early 90's Hip-Hop songs (1992 to be exact) of the more chill variety!  I've got to find a way to work it into one of my next mixes!

Bhangra: Specialist N' Tru Skool

This is one group that I absolutely love! I've never seen them, I'm not sure where they're from (England???) and I'm not even sure that they (can afford to) make videos, but one thing's for sure, every song of there's is sick! (or should I say Sikh? ;)  Here's a small sampling of what they do...

I just love this Bollywood "item number" from the 2010 movie Dabangg (दबंग)!  I wish I could comment on the film, but I have yet to see it!  Apparently it did better in the box office than 3 Idiots.  Check it out...

Gettin' Desi With... Das Racist

Let me introduce you to one of my favorite desi bands- Das Racist.  Well, okay, so not everyone in the group is Desi, but 2 out of 3 ain't bad!   They remind me of a Desi version of LMFAO... minus the animal print pants!  Even their videos seem to capture their unique style!  Check out their latest video for a song call "Michael Jackson":



One of my favorite songs is "Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell".   I nearly fell on the floor when I heard this joint (no pun intended)!  If you're as much of a fan of Das Racist as I am, then you'll appreciate this song despite the fact that it doesn't exactly showcase they're lyrical skillz (which I assure you they do have!)  Unfortunately there's no real video for it just yet (that I know of), so you'll just have use your imagination.



My all-time favorite Das Racist song is "Rapping 2 U" (I'm a sucker for an "exotic" sounding hook).
