I noticed the other day that I've been neglecting Bollywood (and Bhangra) songs recently! Not to worry, I went back and found one of my favorite Bollywood songs of all times: Kehna Hai Kya from the 1995 film "Bombay." Enjoy!
The years I spent in NYC were some of my best yet! It's where I learned to DJ, where I got my first solo gig, where I first played in a club, etc. And although there are a lot of Hip-Hop artists based out of New York, Gang Starr has always been my favorite! Here my top 3 Gang Starr songs:
It was one of those days when I just got tired to the same ol' Top 40 songs on the radio and I decided to explore outside my usual preset stations. Being in the Central Valley, I immediately ran across a Spanish station playing "Inténtalo Me Prende" by Dj Erick Rincon! It really feels like a Mexican Song had a baby with a Lebanese Song! I absolutely LOVE it! The video wasn't exactly what I expected either! My favorite part is when the Mexican dancers come in with these REDONKULOUSLY long shoes! Seriously, how are they not tripping all over each other???
Damn! I am SOOOOO ready for summer! I can see it already: me kickin' it poolside in the 100°F weather with P.M. Dawn's "Set Adrift On Memory Bliss" playing in the background! I must admit I'm not usually a fan of the same music that plays on"Adult Contemporary" radio, but this song just seemed so relaxing that it sort of hypnotized me... I suggest you don't fight it either :)
Not sure why I'm on this Nerd kick recently, but alas, I found yet another Nerd based jewelry item that I think would be the perfect accessory for a DJ gig. Say hello to these cute glasses rings from ASOS!
WARNING: These little glasses rings are so real looking, you might be tempted to give your finger a noogie... wait... WHAT???
Anyhow, speaking of nerds... here's my favorite song "She Wants To Move" from the group N.E.R.D.:
This weekend I was looking to make good on my New Years resolution by finally downloading Ableton! I happened to come across this video of German musician Robot Koch showing how he creates his music using Ableton.
When they showed him recording the sound of a piece of paper ripping and I just about had a heart attack! I love that kind of ISH! I don't know if I've mentioned it before, but I absolutly LOVE strange and unusual sounds in music, like the baby rattle & crying sounds in Aaliyah's "Find Somebody"...
or the gunshots & cash registar sounds in MIA's "Paper Planes"...
I can't wait to go around recording strange sounds to incorporate in my mixes! But first I must master Ableton... wish me luck! In the meantime listen to (& download!) Robot Koch's "Nano" here:
Here's yet another Flashback Friday that will make you ask: "Whatever happened to them?" According to Wikipedia, K.P. & Envyi were yet another 90's one-hit-wonder! But better to have made one hit than no hit at all, right?
